We were treated to a very enjoyable evening's entertainment while watching “Redlynch Players” production of “Two” written by Jim Cartwright (who also gave us ‘The Rise & Fall of Little Voice’).
Set in a Northern Pub originally, the play takes a look at different aspects of working class life through the performing of a number of monologues and duologues from some very interesting and different characters, we hear about love, hate, domestic violence and mourning, and are introduced to the comedic as well as the tragic side of life. It can be performed with just two actors playing all the parts or, as in this case, using a number of actors which worked very well.
All the actors without exception worked well together with no weak links producing excellent performances and good characterizations, however I feel I should mention Graham and Gina who played the demanding roles of the pub landlord and landlady, producing outstanding performances.
Diction was very clear from all actors, and the pace was just right which meant the audience could follow the action and the story very well. The nature of this play is like a roller coaster, there is some very good comedy mixed with stories dealing with delicate and tragic subjects and I must congratulate the director and actors on the way they handled these subjects as they were presented very well with a great deal of understanding.
This production was set in the ‘local’ pub “The Redlynch Tap” and as soon as you walked in the venue you were seated within the set making you feel you were part of the action. The inclusion of Pub Pianists and a Bar Singer opening the performance, and getting the audience singing along to a selection of ABBA songs was a delight. The lighting was just right and was important to the success of this play
I thought the whole production was very well directed by Ron Perry with some excellent attention to detail throughout, and well done to all involved in bringing this play to the stage.
Thank you, once again, for your kind hospitality and I look forward to seeing what’s next.
