Trelawny of the Wells is an interesting and challenging piece of theatre and at a fraction over 2.5 hours running time was possibly not for the casual theatre goer. It was a bold and a brave choice of drama for PBTC but I must admit feeling admiration for their choice, particularly since – under JOHN HEBDEN’S direction - it was beautifully translated from page to stage with flair and artistry and featured incredibly assured performances from the company. The direction was seamless and the overall production had a confidence that is often not obvious in amateur theatre. Notwithstanding the complexities of the play, the audience lost nothing of the theatrical allusions with even the curtain calls possessing a theatrical flourish befitting the themes of the piece. It really was beautifully produced from start to finish.
