Thank you for inviting me to your production of Traitor at the Beeches, the sequel to home written “Fight Them for the Beeches”, which I enjoyed watching three years ago. Written by Kathy Reid, the play is again set in The Beeches Residential Home, where this time, there appears to be a wartime traitor in their midst….or is there? We were reacquainted with some of the residents from the first play and introduced to some new ones. The production had been well cast with all of the actors looking comfortable in their roles as they led us through this traitorous tale. Full of twists and turns and shocking revelations, this was an entertaining play with a somewhat surprising ending!

It was fun to meet the residents of The Beeches again and to delve into their lives in this a tale of intrigue and twisty turns which kept the audience guessing. There were lots of funny moments in the play as well as some surprising ones and it gave the cast the opportunity under Kathy’s direction to show good contrasts in their characterisation. All the actors had developed good relationships and looked comfortable on stage together. Traitors of course are very much in the picture at the moment with the popular BBC show and it was a clever concept for this play which the cast embraced. Lots of denials, “I could never be a traitor” and shocking revelations gave the cast plenty of opportunities for drama!
