Through The Looking Glass

Once again it was a pleasure to visit CHAOS Music and Drama group, at The Drill Hall Chepstow, to
see their production of “Through The looking Glass. A much-loved tale based on the novel by Lewis
Carroll.

It cannot be underestimated how difficult it is to successfully guide the audience through what
should be an enjoyable and adventurous tale, when the very nature of that tale is to confuse and
move in multiple directions.

Director Keith Weight must be congratulated on providing a show that flowed through some very
difficult changes of scene and multiple changes of characters. I must also congratulate the cast for
their resilience in taking on multiple roles throughout the show. Well done to you all.

Hazel Guppy gave us a very bright and charming Alice and kept her character beautifully from the
lovely opening scene to the final conclusion of the strange events. Very well done.

An excellent relationship was created between Alice and White knight ,played by Calum Woodward,
who gave a strong performance. The duets were very well sung and much appreciated by the
audience. The performance between Alice and the White knight was both sensitive and emotional
and shows excellent casting. My congratulations to you both.

The diabolical villain of the peace; The Red Queen played by Marianne Bowen was a powerful
performance, as was required for this role. Let’s hope that she put aside this character when taking
on the additional role of Musical Director. Congratulations on an excellent result.

There are so many roles in this show, that are so important to the telling of the story and many of
the cast must be congratulated on their stamina and dedication in taking on these multiple roles
very successfully.

Well done to all the cast. A very entertaining and educational show, enjoyed by all who knew the
story and by some who missed it in their childhood reading. An excellent narration of a difficult tale.
