An evening of three one act plays was presented in the society’s own theatre and all were well appreciated by those attending.  Unfortunately I was not able to be present for the first one which was Departure, a comedy by Stephen Smith.  This involves four people stranded in an airport lounge during a holiday flight delay.  It was directed by Keith Davison.

The second production was World Premiere, another comedy, this time by Charles Mander, which revolves around the technical rehearsal for a play being performed by a local dramatic Society.  It was directed by Helen Davison.  Some of the scenarios of amateur dramatics included in a funny script will have been familiar to many of us I think!  There were good comic performances from the cast of seven playing the Director and cast members, along with the prompt, a lady from the Mothers Union and a rather confused man who had come to give a speech to the Mothers Union.

The final play of the evening was a super, hilarious farce, Pastiche, written by Nick Hall.  Sir Peter Tanford entertains his girlfriend, Viola Vionysse, to dinner at his home but forgets that it is his wedding anniversary.  Needless to say his wife, Lady Alexandra, interrupts the lovers and proceeds to turn the evening into a shambles, aided and abetted by the butler, Medford.

This four hander, directed by Keith Davison, was excellent and the performances of the long suffering wife (Helen Davison) and the butler (Richie Donaldson) were excellent.  Helen’s long speech during her portrayal of a Salvation Army member was superb.  Sir Peter was played by Dave Hawxwell and Viola by Kay McGuire.

With some performers appearing in more than one play this was a thoroughly entertaining evening.
