With Carol-Anne McKay’s design, which opened flap on flap, the set changed quickly and easily. Props were authentic, lighting well- managed and sound balance good. Costumes were mostly good although hemlines were variable, and 1920s wigs were nicely dressed.

The well-rehearsed Chorus sang with confidence. The ‘Pricilla Girls’ were a lively group of theatrical wannabees who recreated the atmosphere of the era while Bronagh Killough was an empathetic ‘rags to riches’ character as Muzzy Van Hossmere.  Aedin Hoey extracted  maximum comedy from her role as office dragon Ms Flannery. More comedy from Careen Starkey as evil white-slave trader Mrs Meers, as she systematically kidnapped her orphan Hotel guests! Her musical numbers with Ching Ho and Bun Foo (Niall Rowe and Chris Poland) were highlights. These two ‘non English-speaking’ Chinamen were hilarious! Seamus Rooney was a mature ‘Sincere Insurance Trust’ boss Trevor Graydon - he showed nice touches of comedy when he met Miss Dorothy. Played by Emma-Jane McKnight she was sweet and engaging  with a beautiful singing voice. With understated charm and pleasant voice, Allen Gordon ticked every box as Jimmy Smith. The star of the show was undoubtedly Emma Nugent as Millie. She was totally immersed in the role and her dancing and singing were excellent.

Choreography by Timmy Bell was always suitable - managing to find space on the tiny stage for 20+ dancers without looking too crowded. Gareth McGreevy’s orchestra, although out of sight and without a monitor, managed to sync extremely well with singers. Gary Warnock gave a new and youthful vigour as Director.
