Billed as a Comedy Thriller and written by WADS playwright of choice at the moment Eric Chappell, “Theft” was brought to the Summer Season Audiences by a cast of regulars guided by new Society Director, Nick Tann. Not an easy choice for a first time director but overall, the performance was well rounded combining a good balance of tension and comedy through to the final curtain.  The pace was maintained throughout, however, the verbose dialogue, did at times, appear to hamper some of the action.  The piece finally crystallised with the appearance of Ivan Hall as the manipulative Spriggs.  He danced an articulate tango around the Farrington’s and Miles’ to reveal their true identities not only to each other but to themselves as well.  Of particular note was Alison Steele as Barbara Miles, who maintained her convincing, but not over the top, drunken demeanour, whilst presenting a well-studied character.  Ian Dobson as John Miles was secure in the role.  Jon Risdon as Trevor Farrington was equally secure, giving a solid portrayal and the ensemble was completed with Anne Dobson as Jenny Farrington, who gave a well observed performance. The audience were kept guessing to the end of the show and undoubtedly, the show has proved another summer success for WADS.
