I thought that this production of the original version of the show was super and a capacity audience (for every performance I understand) had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.  The society are extremely lucky in having not only a loyal following but a steady influx of members from a young age and, whilst I have seen a number of them appearing in the society’s adult shows, here was another opportunity for a large cast of youngsters to shine on their own.

Charlotte Thomas gently settled in to her part of Dorothy and grew stronger as she was joined by the Scarecrow, Tinman and Lion.

Megan Tudor was very good as the Scarecrow, Macsen Sherer gave a strong portrayal as the Tinman and Shauna Herfield gave us an excellent Lion and, together with Dorothy, they formed a very engaging group as they travelled the Yellow Brick Road.

However, these four weren’t on their own and they were well supported by Millie Chaffe as the Sorceress, Alice Jordan playing the Wicked Witch and Charlie Burke as Gloria.  Young Freya Tudor was absolutely excellent as the Munchkin Mayor – how well she is developing - and all the smaller roles were very well performed.  I also thought that diction was pretty good and they knew their words!

The whole cast sang confidently and the choreography was just right for them, being very enthusiastic and fun.  It goes without saying for a Hornsea show that the costumes were excellent, bright and colourful.  The set was also first class giving the impact that we have come to expect from the society.

Very impressive.
