It was great to be able to join you for your first full production since the pandemic and lovely that after having to cancel so close to opening night last year you were able to at last put on your pantomime The Wizard of Oz.
The pantomime had plenty of songs, corny jokes and village ‘in-jokes’ and it was clear that all the cast were having a great time. The director had ensured that this large cast of actors had been well prepared and understood their characters which were believable and delivered very well. It was lovely to see so many children so confident on stage and enjoying performing. In particular, Dorothy and Toto at only 11 years old, were excellent and were well supported by the scarecrow, tin man and cowardly lion as well as an evil wicked witch and traditional pantomime dame.
The whole cast sang and danced well and there were some excellent performances from both the principles and also the ensemble. The set had many different and vibrant hand painted back drops which were very eye catching. The lighting had been well designed with different coloured washes were used effectively. Of particular note were the lightening effects for the cyclone with the back lit shadow effects on the curtains as houses and animals flew through the air during the cyclone.
Congratulations to the director and all the cast on transporting us to The Land of Oz and for your energetic and enthusiastic pantomime. I look forward to returning for your next production.
