Wimborne Musical Society celebrated their fiftieth year in style with a super production the RSC version of “The Wizard of Oz”, the ageless classic musical.

An excellent team of principal characters together with a very impressive, albeit a rather large, set and wonderful colourful costumes that made it all looked superb throughout

Hermione Mason playing one of her dream roles “Dorothy” shone throughout the performance. She given great support from Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion, who were all very good, as they search for the Wizard.

They were joined in their quest by a wonderful performing dog as Toto, that got lots of oohs and aahs from the audience, but it soon became a bit of a distraction as it was constantly pawing at Dorothy try to get more tit bits, and I thought it was great credit to her that she was able to keep in character an continue without faltering.

In my opinion the outstanding performance of the evening was Jemma Cable as the Wicked Witch, I thought that she was magnificent, and I wondered how her voice managed to survive the week with all the high pitch screeching that she did, wonderful characterisation.

There were two keyboards, bass guitar and drums in the small band. Sadly the sound was not balanced, from where I was sitting the bass guitar was far too loud and I was unable to hear most of what the keyboards were playing.

Excellent direction and choreography linked it all together to produce another wonderful show which was a great credit to the company.
