The Wizard of Oz Musical Film music and lyrics from the 1939 MGM motion picture, score by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg : Background music by Herbert Stothart.
First time director Charlotte Walker assisted by Christine White made a great success of this popular musical which included very challenging sets, superb sound effects and excellent lighting. This fairytale came alive with some excellent performances by a very talented cast. The acting and singing of Dorothy (Beth Mabin) were a delight and she was ably accompanied by her dog Toto (Maisie Taylor). Scarecrow (Rob Tickner) always entertaining displaying his versatile talents and acrobatics. The singing and acting of Tinman (Philip Mumford) was superb. Cowardly Lion (Tim Canfield) also displayed his many talents. The Wicked Witch (Melanie Martin) was very evil with her tormenting performance. Ably supported by a very strong ensemble.
Musical Director Paul Tickner conducted a very accomplished orchestra who gave a high standard. Choreographer Joyce Atlee displayed her expertise with many varied dance routines which the well drilled cast carried out with aplomb. The Stage set managed by Mike Davall and crew was very complicated but accomplished in a very well drilled manner. Melvyn Fryer designed the lighting assisted by Stuart Armes and Luke Dudley. Ian Sutton(Omega Productions)was Sound Manager. Sound Effects by Graham Hix and Maurice Kent. An excellent evenings entertainment from this feel good show.
