Taking us on a nostalgic trip back to the 1980s, this version of The Wedding Singer did not fail to entertain.  Full of fun, energy and toe-tapping musical numbers this performance kept the audience engaged from start to finish.

Llandudno Musical Productions (LMP) treated us to night of upbeat entertainment that did not lose pace from beginning to end.  The set was simple but effective and had a strong 80s vibe that set the scene from the start. The set being on several levels added impact to the performance.  The lighting added positively to the production and the sound levels were consistent throughout.

The costumes were a strong feature of the show.  The authenticity of the styles of clothing, hair and make-up made me smile and took me on a lovely trip down memory lane!  The colours of the costumes were changed to denote the different weddings being attended.  This was a great strategy and made the transitions very clear for the audience.   The band’s blue jackets looked perfect for the period and Rosie’s shell suit raised many a laugh!

The actors within this production all performed to a high standard throughout.  The lead characters Robbie, played by Dan Baker and Julia, played by Catrin Parry, gave excellent performances both with their acting and singing.  Performances that allowed the audience to sympathise and celebrate with their situations.  Nadja Shone demonstrated her singing and dance expertise beautifully, while conveying the part of Holly with confidence.  The band members Sammy (Sam Highcock) and George (Jamie Toffrey) both brought their experience to the stage.  Sam delivered numerous amusing lines with great comic timing, while Jamie’s more subtle character (and wig) made us laugh, particularly when he duetted with Rosie.  Superb performances by both Sam and Jamie.  Glen, Julia’s arrogant, self-assured boyfriend, played by Jack Morris, successfully offered the audience a contrast to the likeable Robbie.  A super performance Jack.  Emma Joyce gave us a fabulous portrayal of Linda, while Ann Burgan kept us laughing with her controversial portrayal of the elderly Rosie.  She was gifted with some very funny script. I particularly liked her scene on the shaking bed.  A super role to play, I am sure.

The cast delivered many special moments throughout.  John Haydon, as the drunk relative and Jonathan, Ashleigh, Gavin and Katie as the impersonators, to name just a few.  A real team effort that resulted in a fantastic show!

The songs were all performed extremely well.  Congratulations to the Musical Director, Catrin. The choreography throughout was energetic and entertaining and of a high standard.  The ladies in the toilet scene and the toe tapping men in the bar, were two of my favourites, among many!  The entrance of Robbie through the audience provided a real highlight to the evening and the beautiful sparkly, finale finished the show superbly.

Huge congratulations to the director and choreographer Rachel Sargent on this fabulous production.  A well-cast production with consistency of performance throughout.

Thank you for inviting me.  I look forward to seeing what Llandudno Musical Productions do next.
