A theatre trip is always a treat. Sometimes the productions are thought provoking, sometimes stimulating, others make us laugh out loud, others are beautifully crafted and to be admired. Barking Music and Drama’s The Wedding Singer, was one that was pure enjoyable entertainment. Not too demanding on the intellect, no complicated plot to work through but lots of comedy, colour, energy and great singing from a company of talented people.
The show had BSL interpreter, Adam Price, on the Friday night. He was exceptional and fascinating to watch as he performed the interpretation from his position stage right.
Director Dylan Hale did a great job bringing out the comedy of this show. The 1980s references were fun, well placed and not missed. There were many wonderfully choreographed numbers by Christie Curson who brought innovation and creativity to the routines.
David Amos did much of the heavy lifting in this show as the wedding singer, Robbie Hart. He had a wonderful stage voice and his singing was a joy to listen to. Abbie LeGallienne gave a fine performance as Julia, playing her with honesty and integrity.
The Wedding Singer provided Barking MAD’s audience with a vivacious and fun evening’s entertainment and all the tremendous amount of hard work that went into this production paid dividends. It certainly appeared that everyone had a good time performing this show and their joy and camaraderie came across to the audience. Another Barking MAD success.
