The wonderful season opener and post Covid return for The Chameleons was The Vicar of Dibley - an adaptation from the first two series of the TV sitcom. All the eccentric parishioners were brilliantly played led by a superb Geraldine Granger in this laugh a minute production. It was played in an arena style venue and only furniture was used to provide the various sets. The great intimacy with the audience that results from such staging was used to good effect as all the players were confident and experienced performers. The action involved the arrival of Geraldine as Dibley's first female vicar - not unanimously welcomed by the council - followed by many wonderfully silly situations and much priceless dialogue from the misfits that make up the Dibley parish council. These included the budding romance and eventual wedding of Hugo Horton - the chairman's innocent, feeble-minded son and Alice Tinker, the crazy childlike verger. A most enjoyable way to spend a warm summer's evening.
