Watching this production of The Taming of the Shrew in the open air on a warm August evening at The Greek Theatre in Walthamstow was an absolute joy for all. The Greek Theatre Players have a reputation for high quality work and this performance upheld and enhanced that reputation.
This highly talented cast was skilfully directed by Mark Greenall and Assisted by Pamela May. They navigated this contentious Shakespeare with care and gave us an interpretation fit for the 21st Century.
The large cast were superbly led by Phil Clarke as Petruchio and Laura Jane Hickerton as Kate. All the players made the language perfectly accessible and brought out the comedy and farcical situations with pace and energy.
A tremendous contribution to the production was made by Dan Cavendish and the musicians. Period instruments, pieces and voices complimented perfectly bringing smiles to the audiences faces.
If you’ve never visited the Greek Theatre do yourself a favour and go along. A special experience.
