This pantomime production delivered a warm, engaging and largely well-paced evening of entertainment, clearly enjoyed by a responsive and enthusiastic audience. The show embraced the traditional elements expected of the genre — humour, familiar music, audience participation, clear storytelling, strong characterisation and visual flair — and succeeded in creating an inclusive, family-friendly atmosphere.

The cast demonstrated confident performances across principal, supporting and ensemble roles, with strong audience rapport, well-balanced vocal delivery and effective character relationships. Comic timing was a particular strength, especially in roles requiring direct audience interaction, while the villains provided clear contrast and energy. The ensemble worked cohesively, maintaining momentum throughout, with well-rehearsed chorus numbers and committed stage presence.

From a creative perspective, the in-house writing and direction made effective use of the company’s strengths, resulting in roles that suited the performers well and a plot that was easy to follow. While the first act felt slightly overlong and one scene appeared unnecessary from a narrative and staging perspective, the overall structure remained clear and engaging, with good pacing elsewhere and a strong sense of spectacle.

Technical and creative support was of a high standard. Costumes were imaginative, character-appropriate and visually striking; make-up, props and set design effectively reinforced the medieval setting. Choreography was tidy and entertaining despite space limitations, and musical direction ensured confident, well-supported vocal performances. Lighting, sound, projections and stage management were generally well executed, contributing positively to the flow and clarity of the production, with only minor timing or visibility issues noted.

Front of house contributed significantly to the overall experience, providing a welcoming and friendly environment that set a positive tone from arrival.

Overall, this was an enjoyable, well-rehearsed and thoughtfully produced pantomime that clearly resonated with its audience, demonstrating strong teamwork, creativity and commitment across all areas of performance and production.
