It's good to see 'The Sound of Music' doing the rounds again and it still seems to be as popular as ever. This well directed show was worth a visit. A delightful Maria (Hannah Long) sang beautifully and had a lovely rapport with the Von Trapp children. It was a strong cast with some good character parts. The lack of chorus work, especially for the men, gave the opportunity for them to take minor roles which worked very well. The children, of course, stole the show. They were a strong team and sang and moved with great confidence. There was some pleasant singing from the nuns and a strong Mother Abbess who could act as well as sing. It was a shame that all the cast didn't have discreetly hidden microphones. Some of them were wearing ones more suited to a pop singer and they were very distracting. A talented young orchestra was sympathetic to the principal singers and dance movements had been well choreographed. The traditional sets were changed smoothly and props had been well chosen. This was an entertaining production that the audience and cast really seemed to enjoy.
