Monmouth Music Theatre brought this world famous musical to The Savoy Theatre Monmouth in May.

The atmosphere in the theatre said it all as the anticipation built and the moving opening scene gave us the Preludium by the nuns of Nonnberg  Abbey by candlelight, singing in fine voice.

Then the famous scene on the mountain we all know so well with Maria, played exceptionally by Cait Davies who lit up the stage in this and every scene  and filled the theatre with her golden voice. Singing the iconic ‘The Sound of Music’

Cait delighted the appreciative audience with her vitality and vivacity. Her rapport with the children, sincerity with Captain Von Trapp and marvellous sense of fun shone.

Dominique Walker, playing her second principal role for Monmouth Music Theatre as Mother Abbess gave a special performance of calm and dignity, giving her standing ovation rendition of Climb Every Mountain. An exceptional voice taking us to the heights of the mountains, and not a dry eye in the house!

A very well cast show, with confident children who reacted naturally, with a sense of fun, acting very well in their scenes with Maria playing the Von Trapp family. Direction Jane Rodgers and Musical Direction Ruth Friend was excellent, with Helen Stidolph  as Accompanist and Repetiteur.

Tom Rigby as Captain Von Trapp gave a distinguished and sincere performance showing all facets of his character, very good chemistry in the romantic scenes with Maria.

Rolfe played by the talented Matthew Evans brought his great voice, acting and dancing to the role.

Lola Mc Clellen as Lesisl shone, giving a lovely performance portraying all the

emotion of a young girl .Michelle Cooper as Elsa the Baroness  gave a sound characterisation of this strong minded woman , and an exuberant Adrian Bevan as Max was perfect for this role bringing the character’s secret life into the open as well his excellent stage presence and rapport to the stage.

Monmouth Music Theatre certainly reached a peak with this exceptional performance of The Sound of Music.
