On a very wet and rainy night I was warmly greeted by the front of house team and we took our seats in anticipation. The Sound Of Music is a very well known and well loved musical based on the true story of the Von Trapp Family in the newly Nazi controlled Austria.
A simple set, lit well and with a good use of props worked well and each of the cast played their parts well. A simple but effective orchestra of five led the way well, led by its Musical Director Christopher Wortley. There were some great performances by Mike Pavitt as the overbearing father Geog Von Trapp and Hannah Worlock as the eldest Daughter, Liesel, worked against each other to good effect and were backed up by Julie Gower as the ever well-meaning Maria with Christobel Thomas as The Mother Abbess (and that last note in climb every Mountain!). The whole cast though really seemed to be enjoying themselves, and this came over to the audience, who definitely were.
This is my first time to see Waterside Musical Society. Well done to everyone involved, an enjoyable evening.
