Exmouth players, without doubt, put everything into this play. The set was impressive and very detailed. It received appreciative applause as soon as the curtains went back. The casting was spot on and a strong cast it was. Descius Heiss was hardly off stage and did a great job, Mathilde Hiess was brilliant, her characterisation and accent, so convincing. Margaret Hiess and Joan Deal made a very good pair of friends and looked good, gradually building their characters as they went along. Robert Graham as the fiancé to Descius daughter Margaret was played with aplomb. Archie Fellowes was portrayed with great skill, the employee that first engendered sympathy and then transformed into the unpleasant and nasty blackmailer, well done. Mrs Catt, what can I say? It was a sheer pleasure to watch her drunken scene …so good and the accent was superb. An actress who enters into character parts with great skill and enthusiasm and to round it all off Corder Morris the dealer. Det Inspector Elliott and Steve Hubbard were great and entirely convincing.
This play had real skill and quality, in my view no one could fail not to have enjoyed such a great performance. My congratulations to Mary Mulcahy and all concerned.
