The Penelopiad
Sinodun Players, The Corn Exchange, Wallingford
Without a strong lead capable of convincing in the performance of readily identifiable female vocalists, as well as sympathetic portrayal of emotional abuse, this particular play cannot succeed. It is to the credit of Erith Playhouse that their confidence in mounting this production (not least by a debut director) was rewarded by strong casting in all of the lead characters. Presentation was also enhanced not insignificantly by a cleverly designed set which allowed for all the action to be smoothly choreographed, with supporting sound and lighting.
