A warm welcome greeted me at The Paget Rooms and it was a pleasure to catch up with Brian Gardner and Wendy Huxtable –Mc Turk for PODS latest offering of The Railway Children.
Following the false imprisonment of their father the Waterbury children move with their mother to the Three Chimneys, a cottage in Yorkshire. This youth production brought back many memories of the timeless classic featuring Jenny Agutter and Bernard Cribbins and the many adventures that ensued. A well-constructed and fully functional set adorned the stage giving a great background for actors young and old to play against. The station master Mr Perks was played with compassion by Jim Keenan-Davies and the role of the Mother by Kim Herniman , both actors giving the mature element needed within this primarily young cast. On the night I attended all children gave a fine and disciplined performance portraying their respective roles well. Imaginative and well executed effects from Llwyd Hernimann gave us a very believable and well executed production, that was well received, well done PODS!
