he acting and singing were excellent throughout, with Leo and Max taking the lead parts with high energy and clarity. The assertive little old ladies seemed to have a wonderful time!  Altogether, this was a show in which everyone was a star in their role(s).  It was a real team production that succeeded because of the talent of the entire cast and crew - and their total involvement in the action at all timesThis is a somewhat controversial show, taking the topic of Hitler as a theme for a musical with Jewish overtones. However, in this case the production was full of humour – as well as swearing – and worked extremely well as a show.

The production and direction were very impressive. The scene changes were mostly efficient and caused little pause in the action of the show.  There was excellent attention to detail, such as theatre-goers carrying programmes and wearing wraps, the usherettes before the show dealing with customers, street cleaners, etc.  Some of the touches were hilarious, such as the neurotic accountant with his comfort blanket, the four pigeon puppets and the ‘Grannies’ with lit-up Zimmer frames. There was a wonderful mix of drag and straight acting throughout and very good discipline in moves and freezes.

The scenes were well planned to reduce delay in the action, with good use of the curtains to screen the changes. The large orchestra provided a well-balanced and sensitive background to the songs and action. However, the music never overran the dialogue and singing onstage. The miming of the violin solo was beautifully done! The sound effects, if there were any, were very well timed and unobtrusive while the sound levels suited the show admirably. Lighting was excellent, with good use of the follow spot.

The costumes were very well done, with lederhosen for Franz, uniforms for the storm troopers and police, and lovely gowns and suits for the Broadway theatre scene. Having the bankers with green eye-shades was wonderful and said so much in a glance! Also Roger’s gay office staff were wonderfully camp both in costume and acting while Ulla was delightful. Choreography was good, especially for the circle dance, and the tap dance fitted into the action so well.
