You may have seen The Pirates of Penzance but you have not seen a performance as original as this one staged in the perfect place for a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, The Savoy Theatre, Monmouth.
This excellent production from Director Kate Russell was staged brilliantly and brought great humour and comedy. The Chorus were closely involved with the action with absolutely the best reactions I have ever seen in a G and S contributing to every scene making the performance come alive!
Playing a strong performance, Kevin Passey was a great swashbuckling Pirate King well supported by Robert Hudson as a convincing Samuel and Ruth, Katie Ellis bringing intense well timed pathos and a rollicking band of Pirates in fine voice.
The perfect duo in Adrian Bevan as Frederick with Jess Martin as Mabel her top notes.
Achieved skilful perfection and exquisite duets.
Major General Stanley was the irrepressible and outstanding Reuben Jones how he sang so rapidly with perfect diction I will never know. His Dear Daughters led by the talented Kate, Rachel Parker Edith, Andrea Pole and Isabel Jess Netherway all were a delight with great reaction and comedy.
Chief of Police William Mackie and his jolly policemen were show stoppers.
Technically very good with authentic costumes and excellent lighting.
Congratulations Director Kate Russell and all the production team involved.
Musical Director Ian Russell must be congratulated for his precision pace with the outstanding Accompanist Helen Stidolph both entered in to the spirit, in full costume well done.
The whole hard working company of MMT obviously enjoyed presenting this innovative performance for a most appreciative audience and you well deserve your success.
