The ever popular "Pirates of Penzance" was a musical treat delivered in true Gilbert & Sullivan style, and remains a favourite of Societies and audiences alike. An outstanding Pirate King (Steven Greenwood) lead the cast along with Frederic. (Leon Waksberg) each word he sang was as clear as a bell. Suitably matched by a fine voiced and confident Mabel, (Louise Foster) new to the Society this year, and hopefully will remain with them for many years to come. Penny McGoverin as Ruth the Piratical Maid-of-all-Work once again delivered a great performance. The dutiful daughters, headed by the bubbly, cheeky Edith, (Christine Roberts) along with her sisters, all gave competent performances, All the pirates were very strong vocally, and the Sergeant of Police along with his little band of men, added the comical touches. A firm favourite with everyone was the Major-General (Colin Fine) who performed an excellent portrayal of his character. The costumes were very bright and colourful (perhaps too clean for the pirates though) were by The Boyz Theatre Costumes. They were accompanied by a splendid Orchestra who reaped their reward at the end by the appreciative audience. Congratulations on a most enjoyable evening.
