Delighted to have new young members in the show, the Society gave an upbeat production of this popular G & S musical. Lively movement and colourful costumes were visually pleasing while the singing and diction, from both principals and chorus, were a pleasure to hear. Frederic (Richard Nortcliffe) was well matched vocally by his Mabel (Lizzie Yoxall), Julie Bee (Ruth) lit up the stage with her characterisation and Michael Bond (Samuel ) and Maria Wright (Edith) gave excellent backing in their smaller roles. Stephen Hibbert (Major-General), Ray Smith (a small but effective Sergeant) and Timothy Whitehead (Pirate King) all added to the fun expected and certainly delivered by this group. The 10 piece orchestra played at just the right volume and the audience went home happily humming the songs. Well done everyone.
