Batley G. & S. Society over the last 70 years have gone through a number of different changes of venue and names but have always maintained a high standard of productions and are to be congratulated on such a fine record. This production had the benefit of a strong line up of very experienced G. & S. performers who have reprised their roles many times before.  Malcolm Parkinson (Major-General Stanley) has few equals in this type of role. I think he just gets better like old wine!  David Parker (The Pirate King) and Leon Waksberg (Frederic) both gave fine acting and singing performances as did Carol Parkinson (Mabel). Ann Likeman (Ruth) gave a very lively interpretation of her role a most entertaining performance. All the remaining supporting roles were played with confidence and did much to enhance the production as did the very fine orchestra they were brilliant. The excellent set and good lighting complimented this production along with good costumes. The next 70 years will do well to surpass the last 70!
