The Pirates of Penzance or in this case The Blendworth Buccaneers was a semi-staged version of the G&S classic.  With costumed principals and seated supporting-chorus, this society entertain their audiences to an evening of high quality G&S with all the nuances and a few more beside.

The sets were strikingly simple but very effective.  Good use was made of all the available entrances and what a set of tools Ruth was able to produce!  The young ladies wore elegant navy and white bathing costumes whilst Ruth was impressively dressed ina most flamboyant outfit and hat to create a truly indomitable lady.  The men’s costumes were also impressive particularly that of the Major General complete with garters for his socks and a pith helmet.

The musical accompaniment was outstanding.  Very sensitive when required and equally flamboyant at other times.  The quality of the singing was outstanding throughout.  The solos were achieved with great ease particularly those of Mabel and Frederic.  The patter song by the Major-General was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The Sergeant of Police was exceptional – every note and every nuance perfect.

This very talented group of people get together to produce a semi-staged version of one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s operettas every year.  This year Pirates rollicked and Policemen paraded in true Gilbertian style.  Congratulations to all involved for the attention to detail and for bringing out all the best bits of Gilbert’s libretto.
