With such a small stage on which to perform, and helped by an ever increasing membership for such a small village, the players did remarkably well. The stage did not look crowded and that was down to skilled directorship and good scenery. We were treated to a really convincing “boo and hiss” witch and a very friendly gentle Mother Goose (fairy). The excellent principle boy (Corydon) looked every inch the part and with a very feminine Princess Marigold made a great couple. Dame Dallymore was funny and entertaining, and the night I was there, added to the fun by having to cope with “her” skirt falling apart and managing the rest of the scene clutching on to it to avoid further mishap! Thoroughly enjoyed by the local audience. King Cole and Sir Hugo Hepatitis played their parts extremely well. Sir Hugo was entirely convincing as the local (and endearingly mean and nasty) aristocrat and the King made the most of the hilarious “drunk” scene with Dame Dallymore. Tapioca made his mark in a regrettably small part with a superb French accent and persona Rack and Ruin made a typically funny and accident prone comic duo and as for the exuberant Giggles; this was a part to me that kept the show together. So very well done! It was also good to see so many children on stage really enjoying their roles and my congratulations to Bo peep, Boy Blue and Tittlemouse. The future of the Players seems secure if these youngsters progress as the years pass. It was also good to see so many families working together on the stage. A great strength for any local company. With so many characters in this pantomime it gave everyone a chance to shine, and shine they did, oh yes they did … well done all.
