A credit to Sir Arthur Sullivan and W. S. Gilbert that their outstanding work is still being performed and enjoyed over a hundred years since they first wrote it
The classic Mikado is usually given a fresh approach now and this was the case with Monmouth’s well directed production with a set and wardrobe that gave credit to the designers, Worcester Gilbert & Sullivan Society how wonderful it is that societies can help each other! The cast in fine voice certainly looked relaxed and confident on stage enjoying this production with the musical direction of Ian Russell once again and exceptional accompanist Helen Stidolph. Director Kate Russell can be justly proud of this innovative production
An energised Chorus of gentlemen with their moves and strong voices made a great opening We also had very good performances from Adrian Bevan as Nanky Poo, he lit up the stage on every entrance and experienced Graham Bryant playing a suitably haughty Pooh Bah, with Reuben Jones as Ko Ko perfect for this outrageous character with his snikker snee! Well supported by Pish Tush, Kevin Passey and The Mikado, Tim Bateman.
Katie Ellis as an imposing Katisha was a force on stage always giving a fine performance, enhanced by her lovely voice, well done.
The train of little ladies was delightful, blending into the Three Little Maids from School led by a showstopper performance by golden voiced Andrea Pole as Yum-Yum. The Chorus were exceptional, enhancing every scene with brilliant interaction
I cannot give more praise to this versatile and dedicated company they work so hard to bring these outstanding productions to the stage at The Savoy Theatre a gem of a theatre the oldest in Wales.
Thank you for keeping these G & S productions alive!
