From the start this show held your attention, an interesting set, colourful and traditional, just as you would expect. With a good set of Principals and a hard working chorus, something essential for a Gilbert and Sullivan Society. When the men's chorus entered, and filled the stage in the opening number, we knew it would be a good evening.
Nanki-Poo (Stuart Sellens) had a good diction and song, and he was well matched with Yum-Yum (Clare Williams) with her lovely voice and good characterisation. Poo-Bah (Ian Moorehouse) had the right amount of pomposity, and was cowardly when he needed to be. Ko-Ko (Leon Waksberg) delighted us with his light hearted rendition of "I've Got a Little List" and his "On a Tree by a River a Little Tom-Tit"
The Mikado (Martin Whitaker) I felt could have been stronger, but Katisha (Penny McGovern) made up for him with her brash demanding antics, and her strong singing voice.
There were some really excellent sung trios and quartets, and also several Solo's, each and everyone a delight to listen to.
It was well attended and enthusiastically received by the audience.
