Brand new and shiny bright with enthusiasm is the best way to describe Fusion Young Performers, on entering the Regal there was certainly a buzz of excitement in the air and the young people on stage certainly didn’t disappoint. A strong opening with a compilation of Matilda songs began the evening and this was closely followed with number after number from a variety of well-known and lesser known musicals. Vocally the company are extremely strong and the more senior performers showed maturity beyond their years, but the junior company also gave them a run for their money. Choreography was suitable for the company and there were some lovely sections and performances. Highlights were How could I ever know  from The Secret Garden, a harmonised Memory from Cats, I’ll be here from Ordinary days and Bring Him Home from Les Mis, in fact the whole Les Mis section was powerfully portrayed.

Act 2 began with soloist and ensemble work on When you believe from Prince of Egypt, this was beautifully staged and portrayed. The boys were not to be outshone by the girls and performed a raucous rendition of Lady in the long black dress from Sister Act. Much of the material used was challenging and the young people met this head on The Last midnight from Into the Woods being a point in fact.

Fusion put themselves on the map well and truly with this musical compilation and it will be interesting to see what comes next.
