Bringing the Disney musical, The  Little Mermaid to the amateur stage is a considerable undertaking with its familiar characters from the 1989 film and combination of under the sea and Palace scenes but does at least guarantee a young appreciative audience who already love the charming aquatic characters. Crowthorne Musical Players rose to this challenge magnificently with some wonderful colourful costumes, beautiful animated projected scenes and a group of Principals who sang the best-known songs in fine voice and with bags of personality.

It was clear that the large cast thoroughly enjoyed performing the show to an appreciative full house and filled the auditorium with the joyous sound of its most famous numbers such as “Under the sea”, “The world above”, “Part of your world”, “Positoovity” and “Kiss the girl” backed by a good sounding band backstage.

But it is the astonishingly good costumes of mermaids, the octopus Ursula, the lobster Sebastian, the fish Flounder, the eels, the seahorses, the seagull Scuttle and King Triton that make this production look so good. Together with some purpose made brilliant, animated scenes projected on the back cyc, they beautifully set the scenes under the sea and on the Beach. The Company did full justice to the Disney classic.
