This delightful creation by Alan Robinson was a clever version of Hans Christian Anderson's story "The Little Mermaid" creating all the characters we expect in panto with an "under-the-sea" setting. This story has no obvious candidate to present as the 'dame' but Alan solves this skillfully by making the captain of the pirate ship female thereby creating Dame Captain Scurvy Knickers! Principal (thigh slapping) Boy and sweet "Princess" - mermaid daughter of King Neptune and the evil aunt - the sea witch were obviously ready made. All the cast were delightfully costumed and sang and danced their way throught the story with infectious enjoyment. All the traditional and expected audience participation elements were cleverly woven into the action.
