This play has been written for the stage by Glyn Robbins and based on the novel by C. S. Lewis. The set is very nice, simple and effective with the ‘Wardrobe’ taking center stage opening to reveal a nice backdrop with scenery taken on and off as needed. The costumes are just right and cleverly represent the different characters; the make-up again helps with this. A lot of attention to detail has been put into this production to get it just right.  Lucie Evans as the director has an excellent cast.

The four children all play their parts very well, Matthew Procter plays Peter, Erica Lakin plays Susan, Owen Hunt plays Edmund and Ellie Watt is Lucy. They are on stage most of the time and all are completely believable in their characters.

They are staying with the Professor, nicely played by Peter Ansell, after being evacuated during the war, however, his house keeper Mrs McCready played by Valerie Rossiter likes things kept in order. The children hide in the wardrobe from her and so the story begins. They arrive in Narnia in winter and meet different characters along the way helping the true ruler Aslan rid the land of the evil White Witch. Mr Tumnus played by Charlie Lakin was very good in the part. I also liked the Beaver family played by Teresa Miller, Adele Buxton and Rosie Cracknell.

Becky North is excellent as the White Witch, I loved her costume and she dominated the stage, her sidekick Maugrim was suitably evil, played by Piers Darling. Nathan East was also very good as Aslan the Lion.

I really liked the fight scene with the cast all moving as one round in circles with the music building up for the battle, with Aslan and the children winning. There are lots of other members taking part in the play and everyone involved looked like they were enjoying themselves.

Well done to you all.
