An impressive set greeted me as we entered the world of Ealing Comedy and Hilltops’ 38th production of The Ladykillers. Based on the 1955 and recently re-released 2004 film featuring Tom Hanks, the story tells of a criminal mastermind Professor Marcus (Martyn Foster Lewis) and his gang of half -witted accomplices. Key to the plot is our unlikely heroine Mrs Louisa Wilberforce (Pauline Watson) and her daylight sensitive parrot General Gordon. Sian Williams and the company took to this challenge with gusto and verve relating the story at pace with some exceptional comic timing. The entry of the Ladys Guild led by Brenda Slaughter added character to this classic and the dulcet tones of the well-rehearsed criminal orchestra had the audience in stitches. The well-constructed and well-dressed stage certainly enhanced this production and some great special effects made this an evening to remember. Well done Hilltop, looking forward to your next production Daisy Pulls It Off!
