The Lady Vanishes at Edenbridge this week - if you missed it, you missed a superlative piece of theatre.
Firstly Andrew Dore and your design team are genious!! What a set!! A revolve on such a small stage, I would have thought it would be impossible but it was worthy of a professional theatre. It made this play move swiftly along. It had everything, from flickering lights as the train rolled along to luscious interiors of the carrage and restaurant car. Such a solid and workable piece of set - I was amazed. It made my jaw drop.
I have witnessed this play in many a theatre in professional theatre on both West End and Broardway but never in a community theatre .Edenbridge keep hold of Andrew and his team. I cannot find any more words to express how you did this and for only 3 performances. Perfect for this ‘The Lady Vanishes’.
Caroline Newman as director you chose your cast perfectly and all were line perfect and not a prompt to be heard. All had convincing characters - all 14 of them. I would like to mention all of them individually but it would take up too much space and they all did you proud, and your direction was carefully thought through and fitted the set with ease. Well done to you Caroline for directing this ‘The Lady Vanishes’ so professionally - you certainly have a flare for directing. Being bossy (I'm sure you're not, but you said it) paid off. Perfect
Props were all in period, sound effects were also good, costumes were period even down to the nun, and lighting was spot on giving us a great blackout on sides of the stage so that we never saw the actors leave, nice touch. I only have one little gripe: its only my opinion, some of the actors on stage were low in projection, they maybe able to hear each other on stage but their audience needs to hear at the back. Other than that Edenbridge you should be proud of this excellent piece of theatre. Well done to Caroline and your cast for a very enjoyable evening. Thank you. Programme was very informative, and I was greeted fondly.
