On this wonderful, very warm summer evening, as we entered the theatre foyer it was very pleasing to see that Wimborne Musical Society’s production of The King & I, was attracting a large audience and I am sure that they did not go home disappointed. This was a very enjoyable show. It had a strong and very experience principal line up so therefore the acting and the singing was of a very high standard throughout and I thought that Lady Thaings’ “Something Wonderful” was outstanding.
The costumes were all very colourful, the whole cast looked superb. However I did think that the line about the half-naked Kralahome should have been cut, because it was quite amusing when he appeared fully clothed in a very nice silver outfit with lots of bling. The children all looked wonderful and I thought the story telling and portrayal about the Small House of Uncle Thomas was very excellent. New Musical Director Lee Redwood with his small ensemble of three keyboards. a bass and drums, provided a nice balanced sound throughout. Never once did they overpower the chorus.
I have said many times that went a production has me close to tears in the final scenes it has reached the mark. A very enjoyable evening
