The Penelopiad
Sinodun Players, The Corn Exchange, Wallingford
The Director's decision "not to trap the characters in any particular time or era" freed the scenic, props and costume teams (and your reviewer) from worrying about anachronisms, but occasionally did cause temporal conflict. Strong, well focused performances from the talented cast getting over Oscar Wilde's epigrams and his cleverly plotted scenario with humour won the day, with the audience fully engaged and enthusiastic whatever the era might have been.
