The Hired Man

It was lovely to see so many people filling the stage at the Compass Theatre, and a credit to the director and the disciplined performers that the area never looked overcrowded, and there was no messy queuing for the wings.

The farewell as the men went to war was beautifully done with lovely little scenes by everyone as individuals. There was a rich warm well-balanced chorus sound, and the balance of singers with the orchestra was excellent, with the instrumentalists supporting and not overpowering the singers.

The projection on to the cyclorama of the well-chosen background images was excellent. The projector was well positioned to avoid shadows, and the images were beautiful and evocative without overpowering the action.
