With sixteen scenes to accommodate in the stage adaptation of the successful book and film, keeping the action flowing was a significant achievement for Erith Playhouse, achieved by the use of trucks and locational lighting for the railway carriage from which the main character observed events unfold apparently on her daily journey. Jenny Tallowin Snee provided a strong lead in this respect, negotiating the always difficult task of presenting the life and persona of an alcoholic while avoiding the stereotypical pitfalls of acting drunk.
