“The Ghost Train” by the much loved Dad’s Army actor, Arnold Ridley (Private Godfrey) is a thriller set in the waiting room of Fal Vale, a small branch railway station in Cornwall in 1922, just as the last train of the day is pulling out of the station. Teddie Deakin has pulled the communication cord and an assortment of passengers are left stranded in the waiting room overnight.

The set was excellent and had been well crafted faithfully recreating the 1920’s railway station waiting room. There was with great attention to detail.

A great deal of trouble had gone into ensuring each character was appropriately dressed and made up immaculately.

The lighting was effective and imaginative; the special effects (the arrival and departure of the train) were spectacular and well executed.

The essential characterisations of each cast member was well developed and each character maintained their persona throughout. The play opens with Saul Hodgkin, the Station Master (convincing Cornish accent from Keith Graham) telling the stranded passengers the spine chilling and dramatic story that sets the tone for the evening. There were no weak links in this excellent production. Mari Fleming provided much of the humour as Miss Bourne before spending a large part of the play in a drunken sleep! Thanks to the talented and hard working team, led by director, Sarah Oliver and producer, Tim Oliver, the design, direction and performances provided the audience with an evening of spooky, thrilling and at times humorous entertainment.
