A very warm Saturday evening  in the middle of a summer heat way  may not be the best time to visit a theatre. but it did not stop the very enthusiastic patrons attending this excellent  MTS production of  The Full Monty at The Salisbury Playhouse.

I come from a family of Sheffield Steel workers, my Father was one of the  many thousands of men who were made redundant in the 1980’s. The original film of The Full Monty will always hold a big place in my heart because it brings back so many wonderful memories.  Therefore I find it difficult to understand why the musical version was Americanised without a complete rewrite, because in my opinion, South Yorkshire humour does not work with an American accent.

However, this MTS production was absolutely fabulous. From the  start the audience was bussing with excitement and as the show progressed, the slightest sight of male flesh had  many of the female members of the audience shrieking with delight.

The high light of the show is of course when the boys deliver “The Full Monty” in the grand finale and storyline follows the trials and tribulations as they build up to it.

Great credit must be given to the six stars of this show, who  really delivered the goods. They were full of confidence and totally believable throughout.  Six excellent individual performances, also great team work and it appeared as if they loved every minute of their performance.  They were also great performances by the other excellent cast members.  I  was very impressed with the Piano player, Viki and Georgie

It was a show full of laughter but it does have a serious side, the funeral scene was certainly very moving, the song ”You Walk With Me” was outstanding and I am sure many in the theatre were, like me, fighting back the tears. The reprise of “You Rule My world”  was also very emotional.

I thought that the orchestra sounded magnificent,  the balance of the sound throughout was very good . However, there were a few microphone issues leading up to the grand finale,  but that was quite understandable given that the microphone packs had to be attached to their hats

An excellent production well done to all concerned.
