Well, being one of only a handful of men in the audience for this performance, I knew it would be a raucous ride indeed! We were greeted with an excellent set and the costumes (when they were being worn) did not disappoint. The ensemble worked well on stage and gave great support vocally and much enthusiasm to the company numbers.
The principals were well-cast and mention must go to the ‘girls’, Lauren Willams as Georgie Bukatinsky, Caroline Maclachan as Vicki Nichols, Lyndzi-Rebecca Williams as Pam Lukowski and Behtan Willams as Estelle Genovese. They all worked well together and had some lovely moments vocally and with their prospective partners throughout the production. Finn Radford gave a very fine performance as Nathan Lukowski mention must go to Lee Bentley for the number of roles he played throughout the show!
The ‘boys’ were great with David Bryan as Jerry Lukowski giving a lovey performance vocally, Ben Bateman (empowering those of us built for comfort and not speed, myself included) as Dave Bukatinsky, Declan Stuart as “Horse” Simmons showing some very slick moves on stage much to the delight of the ladies, Michael Aubin as Harold Nichols with a suitably uptight and managerial performance, Joseph Robinson as Ethan with great vocals and, judging by the number of times he had to hit the floor trying to run up the wall, some very fine bruises, and special mention to Daniel Moses for a hilarious performance as the geeky Malcolm with some great comic timing and characterisation.
There was a particularly fine performance that is worthy of mention and this came from Karen Webb as Jeanette Burmeister. Her characterisation was excellent and her comic timing impeccable. She gave an amazing performance of her showbiz number, made even more amazing by the fact that her mic had stopped working and yet she gave even more in her rendition. Another great show by a talented company and I look forward to their next production.
