This was the second of two plays by Chesil Youth Theatre. This time it was the turn of the older group, those in years 7-13. The Fan (Il Ventaglio), a short one act play, is the story of a young man who is trying to replace a broken fan belonging to his beloved therefore trying to win her love and affection. The fan ends up in everyone else's hands and there are misunderstandings afoot.

Using the same set as Alice, although turned into an Italian restaurant courtyard, again the space created by the set designers allowed good use by the cast and gave them a chance to expand on their character. Diction was good, nothing appeared too rushed and the lines when delivered by the principals or the cast were confident. The show had obviously been well rehearsed and the cast looked as if they were enjoying the performance, this certainly came across into the auditorium and we were suitably entertained. The whole cast were led well by the principals (Beatrice Shambrook as Nina, Elysium Haigh as Count Rocca Marina , Abbie Powers as Coronato and Josh Windram as Crispino) but were more than ably backed up by the rest of those sharing the stage. The costumes added well to the overall feel of the show well, and allowed good freedom of movement and expression bringing confident characterisation.

This was a very well delivered and confident performance from a talented cast. Well done all, good job.
