Off Centre Theatre decided on a complete challenge for this second play of the year and what an inspired choice, and also using some of the young very talented students giving them their first taste of adult performing, to complete their cast, this surely is the way forward.
Central to this play was the exceptional actor David Harris, as Archie Rice, perfect for the role, and he did a sterling interpretation of this complex characterisation. Bringing many facets to the complexity which was fascinating to watch. David is no doubt a master of his craft!
Hamish Sperring as Frank Rice his Son, it was good to hear how he had enjoyed his first adult production and this type of experience, he did very well with this part, relaxed and confident.
Tony Summers as William, Archie’s elder Brother, made this part interesting showing the contrast of the Brothers personalities, an excellent interpretation..
Steve Banner as Billy Rice The Cantankerous Grandad, was incredible, and how did he remember all those vast pages of dialogue? It was so incredibly funny to hear the scenes with Grandaughter Jean as he was prying into her private life, it was incredibly hilarious, with his great delivery !!
‘A star is born’ with Holly Ayling as The Daughter Jean Rice, her measured skilful acting in the beginning of her dialogue with the Grandad were so special and then she suddenly came to life!! Brilliant!! Throughout, Holly made her mark as an exceptional actor, great to witness.
Eileen Summers as Phoebe Rice, Archie’s second wife was played realistically as the gin swigging alcoholic getting more and more disillusioned as the play progressed, well done.
A very charismatic young man, Iwan Beard as Graham Dodd the Fiance of Jean, made this part his own, good to see him in an adult production I hope it leads to other adult challenges.
Now to the Fantastic team of Dancers WOW they were something, looked amazing and the moves created by Jane Rodgers were outstanding so in keeping with the era, great costumes from Jenny Weston. Dancers- Jane Rodgers, Rhian Hatthaway, Nina Salmon,Arturo Sanchez Garcia
Congratulations to all the production team thank you for inviting us.
Every success for your next play Murder on the Nile by Agatha Christie I look forward to it
