~~The play is set in Melchester (Hardy's name for Salisbury), and is adapted by Frank Harvey, from Thomas Hardy short story.
The set was very good there is always a lot of attention to detail, and just a few items added or taken away to add to each new scene. The costumes are also very good and added to the play. Anne Ponting directed the play and it was well cast and very enjoyable. The characters all came across very well and it was easy to see the different relationships between them. They all had some funny lines and there were lots of twists and turns alone the way.
Arthur, played by Paul de Burton, was a strong likeable character. Letty his sister (Wendy Beaumont) had some great lines and they worked very well together.
There are two maids in the house Anna (Naomi Henderson), played her part very well and had a good sense of fun along with Sarah (Francesca Tucker) keeping the pace and energy with her cheekiness.  Having met a young man at the fair she asks for help with writing letters to him.  Edith (Kitty Cecil-Wright) helps her to win his heart, but at the same time becomes ‘in love’ with him herself, being the younger wife to Arthur she wishes her life would change and see’s this with Charles, instead of Sarah.
Charles Bradford played by (Matthew Traher) is the young man in question and he comes across strong and gives a great performance.
The production as a whole was very good and we really enjoyed it. Thank you.
