Based on the very successful TV series in the early 90’s and set in the 50’s. Key to the play are Ma and Pop Larkin, ably portrayed by Kim Herniman and Phil Sage who brought out the gentle humour of the piece with ease and held the attention of the audience throughout the play.

Ffion Cancelliere as Mariette gave a good performance with just the right amount of innocence required, a nice young actress with lots of potential. Simon Webb, as Mr Charlton, gave a strong performance and was a convincing bumbling tax inspector, and a perfect target for Mariette.

The children of the family were played very well by Joseph Carolan [Montgomery], Lauren Jenkins [Primrose], Brooke & Eryn Davies [Petunia & Zinnia] and Martha Eley [Victoria].

The main cast was supported by some good performances from Mike Curry [Brigadier], Phil May [Tax Inspector], Melissa Rabaiotti [Miss Parchester], Caitlin McDonald-Curry [Pauline Jackson], George Atkins [Sir George Bluff-Gore], Mary Gardner  [Lady Bluff-Gore]  and Victoria Lowry [Angela Snow].

The set was well designed and functional and the lighting was appropriate. An excellent variety of costumes was used and suited the era.

At times the play lost pace, mainly due to dropped lines and missed entry’s. The production had some really good touches of theatre. Everyone worked very hard to make the lines sound natural while still being clearly audible.

Congratulations PODS.
