Let's start with first impressions which must be the set - contructed by Pete Miles and team - it was very effective with simple changes for each act. The same applied to properties - congratulations to Ian Brady. As for costumes, these were of the period, very attractive and had been brought together from five different sources - a Wardrobe Manager's nightmare!!! The musicians were great - well controlled by Hugh - just shows that you don't need an orchestra pit full. Well done to Hayley - the choreography was certainly of the Charleston era. Congratulations to Mary on her first production of a musical. Now to the cast - everyone kept the 1920's style thoughout. Kate Mitchell played a delightful, demure Polly Browne, and was well matched with the "boyfriend" Tony Brockhurst (Adam Walker) - congratulations Adam on your first ever lead role. A talented bevy of "perfect young ladies" and their boyfriends completed a great line-up of the best of "young amateur theatre". Older characters were ideally cast - Madame Dubonnet (Marilyn Barker) and Percival Browne (Mike Richardson) never failing to please. Other cameo roles were played just at the right level. If, in over 80 years, we have lost some of the carefree "joie-de-vivre" the show certainly evolved into a delightful evening's entertainment and we certainly came out of the theatre singing and feeling good!! Here's to 2013!!
