THE BOOK OF MURDER BY RON COWEN

Nothing like a murder mystery to bring tension and anticipation to a theatre. EVOS hit the right note with this well balanced play for six actors. Well constructed narrative though not exactly always an easy run for the cast, they however coped well.  Working smoothly through this play on a set on two levels with the bedroom murder scene on the first level, an impressive set almost in the round, lighting used to stage right and stage left for time lapsed scenes.
Right from the onset Cheryl Williams, an excellent performance as Mary Aythecliff  the long suffering fourth wife of the unsavoury Henry  showed clever insincerity even the scream when she found Henry dead was suitably false.
Bringing his three former wives to his home for extortion, Michael Fleming commanded the stage as Henry Aythecliff and gave a convincing portrayal bringing intense light and shade to this character.
The three former wives Anne, Mandy Phillips, Catherine, Julie Wyatt and Jane, Sian Edwards all played their roles very well, bringing fierce emotion to their interaction with Henry.
Every murder case has a detective and we had a very good laid back performance from Alex
Mac Intosh as Charlie Marlette, as he quietly controlled the action. Well done EVODS all your hard work on this challenging play brought you success.
